  • Walks in the hills or a choice of sandy and rocky beaches on the coast such as at St Cyrus (below).

  • Visits to castles (e.g. the ruined fortress of Dunnottar Castle used in the film Hamlet starring Mel Gibson).  There are many other stately homes and gardens in the area and up Deeside

  • Hill walking, pony trekking and cycling on Deeside and the Angus Glens

  • There are several Nature Reserves in the area

St Cyrus beach and National Nature Reserve
  • Nearby golf courses at Montrose, Edzell, Auchenblae and Stonehaven

  • Swimming Pools in Stonehaven and Montrose (or the North Sea for the hardy!)

  • Cinemas and Theatres in Aberdeen,  video hire shops in Inverbervie

  • Visit the local distillery at Fettercairn

  • Fishing: sea-fishing from Stonehaven, free permit on the River Bervie for those staying in the holiday houses.  The famous salmon rivers North and South Esk and River Dee are nearby  

  • Learn about the heritage of the area at the Grassic Gibbon Centre
